I know, it has been awhile! Starting in November, I will get back on the horse and make this Substack into a valuable resource for those who want to work with music in nursing homes.
Here is something for your enjoyment in the meantime. I dusted off this song from 1949, “The Headless Horseman” . Originally sung by Bing Crosby in the Disney cartoon “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”, I’ve turned it into a rock song! I got my favorite fellas in the studio: Dennis Diken on drums from The Smithereens, Richard Lloyd on lead guitar (from Television) and one of my very favorite bassists in the world, Peter Stuart.
This song has just been added to the music loop at the official Sleepy Hollow Rock and Roll House of Horrors, (haunted house attraction) right up there with Monster Mash and Werewolves of London “where it belongs” as the enthusiastic management puts it. I’m thrilled!
I’m headed to play in a nursing home now - will sing this for the residents!
The best part: I make them all think of a “scary sound” and at certain interludes, I get them to express their scary sounds all together. It’s delightful!
Enjoy, Happy Halloween, and I promise to do better from now on!
I would love to see a video of the residents all making scary sounds.
Great song!
