Video: Bibi brings Baby Monroe To Rock The Crown Heights Nursing Home
And what I was wrong about...
One of the dreams I had when starting this blog was to meet more musicians I could collaborate with, and bring into the nursing home environment. It’s lonely to stroll for four hours and sing by myself. Here is that dream realized. Singer Baby Monroe and I met on the downtown music scene, compared song lists and before you knew but, were hitting the hallways of the Crown Heights Center For Nursing and Rehab in Brooklyn. Here’s a little taste of what we do, see video below.
Happy I was wrong about this: after years of telling myself: A duo act is NOT in their budget, I’ll have to play alone forever, this is always going to be the case. I WAS WRONG. After one freebie he did with me, I asked for - and received payment for bringing Baby Monroe on the gig. They love what he brings to the table and in this facility, they’re happy to pay. They just booked us for two more dates in May. So you can try that too!
I call it “Let’s take your car”. When we go over songs, in this repertoire especially, he sings with such power, prowess and resonance that I always want him to sing the lead. His “car” is better! I love just accompanying on guitar and singing backing vocals. When I do sing lead, he fills in the backing parts beautifully.
My whole gig just got a whole lot easier and way more fun. The residents and staff love this new addition, believe you me.
Working with Baby Monroe doesn’t feel like work at all!
Let me know your thoughts in the comments, we’re building community here.
Blessings to you and thanks for being here,
Bibi
Wow! I would cone to that nursing home to make a friend just so i could go to your performances! Rhise people are so lucky! May God further bless your efforts!
Yeah, baby, that’s the way to go! If only more musicians knew how much fun and satisfaction you get out of that kind of performance. So great to see you and baby Monroe singing together!
